Renovated Toogoom home first prize for House Rules

A RENOVATED house in Toogoom will be the first prize for a viewer of Channel Seven's reality show, House Rules.

The Fraser Coast is once again in the reality TV spotlight, this time the area's real estate possibilities and coastal lifestyle will be showcased on House Rules tomorrow night.

The show's host Johanna Griggs said the Fraser Coast's natural beauty and easy-going attitude swayed the producers to shoot in the area.

"We had a company from the area that we had used twice with Better Homes and Gardens who were happy to work with us in our time frames," she said.

"We wanted to sell it as the ultimate lifestyle destination and it's a beautiful part of the world to do that," Griggs said.

The classic Queenslander house was trucked from the Sunshine Coast to the property in Toogoom, and the show's contestants were given a week to renovate it.

The production team and contestants spent 10 days in the area, helped by Fraser Coast businesses and labour.

"The show does not work unless we have the help of a huge team of tradies, shops and helpful locals," Ms Griggs said.

The house, worth more than $800,000, will be up for grabs for viewers who enter the show's nightly competition.

Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell said he believed the TV exposure would be good for the region.

"There's a really strong historical story to tell and great natural beauty and really talented people.

"Fraser Coast Opportunities over the last two years has been very instrumental in getting film, TV crews and programs on site here promote everything from fishing, tourism and heritage," Cr O'Connell said.
