Tony Abbott gets behind Morcombe movie

FORMER Prime Minister Tony Abbott has thrown his support behind the Daniel Morcombe movie.

Crowdfunding for Where is Daniel? has reached its final week.

With about $100,000 on the board, the $300,000 target means a massive late push is needed to help fast-track the film which is set to be shot on the Sunshine Coast.

Such a massive push needs some big names on board and they have started to flow.

Ex-PM Abbott, the current Member for Warringah has thrown his support behind the project, as has seven-time former world surfing champion Layne Beachley.

Promoter Ang Vogt said Terri Irwin had also indicated she'd throw her support behind the movie, which has been backed by Daniel Morcombe's parents, Bruce and Denise.

The film has industry heavy-hitters on board and will help hammer home the child safety message through a feature film detailing the story of Bruce and Denise and the tireless work of police to bring Daniel's killer to justice.

A number of Coast identities have already jumped on board including Mix FM's Mark and Caroline and Mayor Mark Jamieson.

With a week to go almost $100,000 has been raised by only 750 generous donors.

The hope is for a massive push of smaller amounts from more people to help get over the $300,000 line.

As part of pledging to the film, donors get the opportunity to put their name on the film's credits, tickets to a screening and even the chance to be an extra in the movie.
