Candidate wants 'unstoppable force of community spirit'
ROBERT McGill's life is built around family and sport, and he says he knows neither would succeed if everyone involved didn't work together.
If voted in as Division 9 representative at the local elections in March, McGill said he planned on rallying the council and residents of Bundaberg to create an "unstoppable" force of community spirit and economic strength.
The father-of-three moved to Bundaberg 17 years ago.
He has been in the building industry the entire time and fought through some hard times where every dollar earnt by the business could be counted as two.
He also enjoyed times where sales were easy to come by, and that's what Mr McGill wants for the Bundaberg community again.
If elected, Mr McGill has committed to do the following:
- Work with State and Federal Government agencies to increase building and development opportunities to create employment and economic growth in the region.
- Implement a transparent tendering process to ensure Bundaberg ratepayers get value for money and local suppliers, tradesmen and women are contracted to do the work.
- Investigate any possible efficiency measures the council can implement to deliver improved services.
- Review Bundaberg airport's strategic plan with the view to upgrade tourism and business services to the region.
Mr McGill said he loved the Bundaberg area and wanted to see it back as one of the top areas in Queensland.
"I used to drive to Bundaberg from Hervey Bay to call on customers," Mr McGill said.
"I enjoyed each visit, so when the opportunity was there to manage a store here I jumped at the chance.
"I see a bright future for Bundaberg and I would love the opportunity to help the community reach its potential.
"The points I would love the chance to implement are not empty promises but a commitment I would make to the ratepayers and residents of Division 9 and the rest of Bundaberg to secure prosperity into the future."
Mr McGill is available for any member of the community who wants to speak to him and can be contacted on 0409 221 532.
