MELBOURNE City coach Warren Joyce won't compromise resilience in his search for improved performances, as he prepares to stick with a winning formula.

The A-League leaders may field the same XI for a third straight game in Saturday's visit to undefeated Adelaide United.

That means another impact role for Tim Cahill in City's star-studded bench.

Joyce hailed his team's spirit in last week's home win over Wellington.

"You want the lot,'' Joyce said.

"We know we can play better than we did last week, but we ended up with three points. There's times you've got to be resilient.

"It will be a tough game in Adelaide but we are in a confident mood.

"We've got to build.''

With a talented group queuing for inclusion, Joyce said he liked to reward winning teams.

"There's not really any squad changes. You've got to give people a chance,'' he said.

"If I asked you to do a job and you did it to the best of your ability and was successful, you'd be pretty disappointed if you were fired for someone else.

"Tim's had a fantastic career and has still got plenty more he wants to achieve, but he's just another player. It's the same for him as anybody else.

"I imagine it's frustrating for him. He's conducted himself and trained well, that's all you can do as a player.''
