Tigers beat Breakers in NBL clash

THE Melbourne Tigers ended the defending champion New Zealand Breakers' undefeated start to the season with a dramatic 67-64 win on Saturday night.

Breakers guard CJ Bruton had a three-point shot in the final seconds that would have seen New Zealand tie the game, but it missed, giving Melbourne the win.

Neither team could gain a decisive advantage over the opening three quarters.

Melbourne held a four point lead entering the final quarter and quickly extended the lead. Ayinde Ubaka's lay up gave the Tigers a 59-52 lead with six minutes left, and when Patty Mills scored on a break-away Melbourne seemed set for a comfortable win.

New Zealand refused to concede, and with tenacious defense they tied the scores at 62-62 with just under a minute remaining, setting up a dramatic finish.
