Mum finds couch hack in Kmart pet aisle

A Victorian mum who shared the $20 pet accessory she used to keep her furniture clean from her messy sons and has had a monumental response to it, with people describing her hack as 'brilliant'.

Posting on a popular Kmart support Facebook page, Leah Ingles Minchin, from Armstrong Creek, said she had been strolling through her local department store the other day when she spotted a quilted pet bed she thought might make a good cover for her couch.

For just $20 each, Leah thought there was no harm in trying it out at home on her two messy sons, Finn, 5, and Solomon, 3.

"I just couldn't handle any more drinks and food spilt on the couch," she wrote.

The family of four have a dog and Leah had been on her way to the pet section to buy it a couch cover too.

"Suddenly, inspiration hit and I decided to get one each for my two boys," she said.

Leah said she hates the daily struggle of cleaning her couch after her sons finish eating and playing all over it when she's not looking.

"I'm tired of pulling the couch apart to wash it, and covering it with blankets only seems to last a day, so thought I'd try this," she said.

"The kids love it, they don't know it's a pet bed, but our dog isn't loving hers".

The large, quilted cover has cushioned arms that the boys can curl up in when watching television, and it keeps dirt and drink off clean couches.

The "genius" post instantly went viral, collecting more than 5.2k likes in just two days, and more than 520 comments from people, talking about how "bloody clever" her idea was.

"This is absolutely brilliant, I have to get one myself," one woman wrote.

People described it as the "best idea ever", wondering out loud why they had never thought of trying it out earlier on their kids.

Leah said she had no idea her post would "create such a stir" but said she was very excited to share her hack with the world.

Another woman said the cover could also be used as an effective "kid separator", so each child had a special spot to sit in on the couch.

"No more 'she's in my space' fighting," they wrote.

But others weren't entirely convinced, asking: "Whose kids sit in the one spot? I'll need 10 of those things."
