Teens save stranded shopper

HEROIC young trio Brad Austin, Travis Lowe and Josh Mazzaracca prevented a Christmas shopping trip from coming to a soggy end on Sunday night.

Flash flooding outside of Warwick on Freestone Road after 9pm left an un-named Tannymorel woman stranded in the downpour due to a flooded engine.

The small car became stranded across the creek after aquaplaning across the road just below the Charleys Gully turn-off.

With a flooded engine and uncharged mobile phone, the woman was luckily found by the passing trio out surveying the storm. Brad, Travis and Josh happily came to the woman's aid.

"The water was just over ankle deep," 17-year-old Brad Austin said.

After retrieving a phone for help from the nearby Austin property and seeing the lady safely off, the boys then couldn't make their own way back. After selflessly aiding a stranger, they became victims of the rising waters themselves.

The boys eventually arrived home via the highway, with the ordeal taking about two hours.

"It was a bit of an adventure for a Sunday night," 14-year-old Travis said.

The Austin family is now concerned about the possibility of more rain after just planting 75 acres of sorghum which desperately needs sunlight. With Sunday night's rainfall of about 57mm at Freestone, residents are definitely not dreaming of another wet Christmas.

"We don't want rain like last year ... that was crazy," Brad said.

The Queensland Department of Transport strongly advises not to cross roads which are covered in water.
