Teen ‘lucky he didn’t kill someone’, says magistrate

A 17-YEAR-old who went on a crime-bender - including stealing and driving dangerously when trying to evade police while on bail - has served 38 days in custody alongside adult criminals.

Benjamin Joel Henderson was released on probation after facing eight charges in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court yesterday.

Henderson will also have to repay $4778.45 for when he smashed his way in and stole mobile phones and headphones from Joyce Mayne Computers at Sippy Downs on January 4.

Three days later he stole fuel from a service station and Caboolture and on January 11 he was involved in a police chase on the Gold Coast.

"You're lucky you didn't kill someone," Magistrate Graeme Tatnell said when imposing the sentence.
