Teen charged over nurse abduction, alleged robbery

A TEENAGER has been charged over the alleged robbery and abduction of a male nurse outside a Gold Coast hospital last week.

Around 3.30am on December 1, 25-year-old nurse Joe Brooker was standing outside the Pindara Private Hospital on Allchurch Street at Benowa when he was allegedly assaulted by several males wearing balaclavas and armed with knives and a handgun, police said.

He was allegedly forced into the boot of his own vehicle and driven to an ATM at Parklands Drive, Parkwood, where he was made to withdraw a sum of money before he was placed back into the boot of his car.

Police said it will be further alleged that at 4.20am the vehicle crashed into a fence at Kurrambee Avenue at Ashmore, where the offenders fled the vehicle.

The male nurse was located in the boot of the car by neighbours in the area. He was taken to hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.

A 17-year-old Ashmore man is scheduled to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of armed robbery, and one count each of torture and deprivation of liberty.
