Sex teacher pleads insanity
AN Ohio substitute teacher who was kicked out of class over student-sex allegations plans to plead not guilty to sexual battery by reason of insanity.
The teacher, who was sobbing before the hearing, was arrested in November for allegedly having sex off-campus with two eleventh-grade students.
Marx confessed to the incidents and admitted to police that she also sent several nude photos to one of the teens through Snapchat and Instagram.
Marx dabbed at her eyes with tissues while at the podium.
"Ms Marx, hang in there, OK, you'll get through this," Judge Steven Dankof said. "You'll be all right."
Kettering police interviewed both teens who said the illicit encounters occurred in local parking lots.
The 17-year-old victim told investigators that Marx gave him oral sex July 19 in the parking lot of a furniture store. The 16-year-old student said that he had intercourse with her September 21 in an apartment block carpark.
Once the allegations came to the school's attention through schoolyard gossip in November, Marx was physically pulled out of a class by staff before being placed under arrest.
"Immediately, the administration began to investigate and also called Kettering police, who very quickly brought in a detective," Kettering City Schools Superintendent Scott Inskeep said at the time.
Marx's lawyer Keith Fricker announced that he plans to submit motions to determine her competency and fitness. She would need to be assessed by a doctor agreed upon by both the prosecution and defence.
If convicted, she could face up to 3 years in prison, the Dayton Daily News reported.
