Childers tai chi for health

CHILDERS residents suffering from depression, diabetes and obesity are encouraged to join in the new series of “tai chi for health” classes starting tomorrow.

Classes begin at 9.30am at the Anglican Church Hall in McIlwraith Street, Childers.

A recent study by the University of Queensland produced promising results in improving depression, diabetes and obesity through a gentle mind-body tai chi-based programme.

Depression levels in participants were found to have decreased between 20% and 60%, and body mass index and waist circumference decreased by 4% and 3% respectively.

These results were achieved without changes to diet or other increased exercise.

Log on to www.uq.edu/news to read more about the study.

Phone Margaret Smith on 0418 191 732 if you are interested in joining the class.
