Swing singer Dan Hamill eliminated from The X Factor

DAN Hamill was the first singer to leave The X Factor's live shows tonight.

The 30-year-old WAAPA graduate was in the bottom two with 15-year-old Georgia Denton after failing to win over the voting public with his performance on Sunday night.

The two contestants sang one last time; Hamill put his swing pop touch on Alicia Keys' Empire State of Mind while Denton hit all the right notes of Ave Maria.

"I'm shocked there were two such incredible singers in the bottom two," judge Guy Sebastian said.

"On the one hand we've got Dan the old dog who needs to unlearn a few things… and then we've got Georgia who is so young and has so much to learn."

Despite commenting on Hamill's "James Bond" looks, Chris Isaak said he wanted to see what young Denton would do next.

Hamill thanked James Blunt, the only of the four judges to vote for him, for his guidance throughout the boot camp round, home visits and the first live show.

"You have been the most genuine, kind, supportive mentor," he said.

Tonight's show also featured appearances by Jessica Mauboy and Justin Bieber in his first Australian TV performance of his chart-topping song What Do You Mean.
