Suspicious car fire damages duplex

A SUSPICIOUS car fire has damaged a set of units in Avenell Heights.

Bundaberg Police reported the McCarthy St blaze happened in an open carport just after 1am on Saturday morning.

Fire investigation officer Andrew McCracken said the fire destroyed the car, a metallic green Toyota Camry.

Mr McCracken said fire crews were able to contain the fire, but not before it damaged the structure of the carport and caused smoke and heat damage to the inside of both duplex units.

He reported no-one was home at the time of the fire, but said the woman in the adjoining duplex evacuated after hearing a dog bark and glass cracking.

Bundaberg Police sergeant Steve Bardini said the cause of the fire was unknown but was being treated as suspicious. Investigations are continuing.

Anyone with information should contact Bundaberg Police on 4153 9111 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
