Sunbury remain Fraser Coast's last finals hope

IT IS the pressure situation Andrew Howlett would have preferred to avoid.

The Sunbury coach had hoped results went his Wide Bay League team's way to ensure The Blues' place in the top four.

A shock 2-all draw with lowly United Park Eagles destroyed that, meaning Sunbury must draw or win against KSS Jets to reach the finals.

It won't be easy. The Jets must draw or win, and hope other results fall its way, to avoid the wooden spoon.

"Phil Rimmer (Jets coach) isn't going to bring a weak side,” Howlett said. "They'll be tough, and there's no way they want to finish as the lowest Hervey Bay team.

"We're not looking to draw at all. We want to show the Bundy teams we're ready for them.”

Sunbury sits outside the top four ahead of the 18th and last round of the season.

Bargara is one point ahead, but a last-round bye means the club's complete attention will be on the Maryborough Cricket Club.

"We didn't want to be in this predicament,” he said.

"We had the chance a few weeks ago to push for second. We should've won last week. I was more than confident the team we had could do the job but UPE just wanted it more. We've moved on from that game.

"I set the goal at the start of the season to make the top four. Hopefully we'll be there late Saturday.”

Doon Villa hosts UPE at Villa Park and United Warriors host Brothers Aston Villa at Hervey Bay Sports Club.

All games start at 6pm.
