Sugarland Shoppingtown celebrates World Green Building Week

SUGARLAND Shoppingtown together with AMP Capital Shopping Centres is celebrating its many achievements this week as part of 'World Green Building Week'.

The annual event showcases the role that sustainable buildings play in creating greener and more prosperous, productive, healthy and empowered communities for our future, with this year's theme being 'Greener Buildings, Better Places, Healthier People'.

Since 2007 Sugarland Shoppingtown has been able to successfully:

  • Reduce electricity usage in the centre by 17%
  • Reduce the amount of carbon emitted by the centre by 21%
  • Reduce the centres water usage by more than 33%.

Sugarland Shoppingtown centre manager Peter Cocking said while it was proud of all its environmental achievements, by far the biggest success story is the centre's recycling initiatives.

"Sugarland Shoppingtown is currently recycling 61% of the centre's waste - a remarkable achievement by any means, but especially for a shopping centre the size of Sugarland," he said.

"These are outstanding results, but as a corporate entity, Sugarland Shoppingtown is always looking at ways that we can improve our environmental impact.

" As Bundaberg and the surrounding regions embrace the message of environmental sustainability, so too does Sugarland Shoppingtown as a key member of the Bundaberg community."

AMP Capital is a proud supporter of World Green Building Week across its Office and Industrial portfolio, which includes shopping centres such as Sugarland Shoppingtown in Bundaberg.

The event will be held from September 16 - 20.
