Students encouraged to honour Vietnam veterans

AS AUSTRALIANS pause to mark Remembrance Day, Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt is encouraging local students to enter the Honouring Australian Vietnam Veterans competition.

"We're inviting grade 9 and 10 students to research any two individuals or groups who served in the Vietnam War and make a submission in one of several different media formats," Mr Pitt said.

"The winning entry will express why it's important to honour their service and remember this part of our history.

"Winners will participate in a three day commemorative program in Canberra in August next year."

Entries close April 8, 2016. For more information go to www.anzacportal.dva.gov.au/competitions.

Mr Pitt said the Department of Veterans Affairs would also be releasing a 2016 calendar highlighting the valuable home front contribution and the impact of war in Australia.
