Staying safe from sharks

BUNDABERG beachgoers should not be alarmed by reports of a giant shark that has reportedly been seen south of these waters.

Surf Life Saving Queensland Wide Bay Capricorn regional manager Craig Holden said while there were two beach closures due to suspected shark sightings during the September school holidays, there was not any unusual activity.

“We didn’t have a lot of sightings last season either — about 15 in nine months,” he said.

Swimmers should still take precautions such as swimming only at patrolled beaches and avoiding murky water.
