13-year-old schoolgirl injured in bus crash

A SCHOOLGIRL was taken to hospital with a serious injury after the school bus she was riding crashed.

The bus was leaving St Anthony's Catholic College about 3pm yesterday when the side of the vehicle hit a gate.

A side door of the bus was damaged in the crash and debris is believed to have fallen on to the foot of a 13-year-old passenger.

Paramedics treated the girl's severe cut at the scene before she was taken to Townsville Hospital.

"This young lady has a very deep laceration to one of her feet," Queensland Ambulance Service paramedic David Cole said. "She (was transported to hospital) in a stable condition."

Townsville Police District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Scot Warwick said the injury was not life threatening.

Sen-Sgt Warwick said police would investigate the incident.
