Youngsters amaze former NBL coach

FORMER National Basketball League coach Dave Claxton hosted a master class for budding players at Shalom College yesterday.

Claxton is one of the NBL’s most celebrated coaches, having taken the helm of the Brisbane Bullets, Gold Coast Rollers and Adelaide 36ers during his impressive career.

The respected basketball strategist held a master class with Bundaberg Bulls players before hosting the fundamental skills clinic at Shalom.

Claxton said he was impressed by the young talent on offer at the skill session.

“I’m amazed at what some of these younger players can do with a ball,” he said.

“Players are developing more quickly these days which is a reflection of the strength of regional competitions.”

Mr Claxton said things looked positive in the Bulls camp and plans to keep an eye on their progress through the Queensland Basketball 2011 season.

“They’ll be ready to get out there and impress,” he said.

Mr Claxton said the Bundaberg Basketball Association was an asset to the region.

“This is as good as it gets,” he said.

“They’re passionate, committed and they’ve got a good eye for developing and fostering local talent.”

Mr Claxton now works as the Basketball director of the Southport School.
