Six people killed in Qld crashes since Friday

AN ELDERLY couple has died after a serious traffic crash near Logan yesterday morning that injured four others including two children.

The 81-year-old man and woman from Stapylton had been travelling in their Toyota sedan on Waterford Tamborine Rd around 10.30am when police said they crossed into the northbound lane, crashing into a 4WD.

The sedan flipped on its side and another car travelling behind the wreckage also crashed, injuring two adults and two children.

Police said the elderly couple were declared dead at the scene.

Four occupants of the third car were taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries and the driver of the 4WD was uninjured.

Waterford Tambourine Rd had to be shut for at least four hours, causing major delays.

Up until Sunday night, five people had died on Queensland's roads since Friday in what has been a horror weekend.

A sixth person died this morning after crashing his car following a stabbing incident.

A 70-year-old man died in Brisbane's southwest on Friday afternoon after colliding head on with a vehicle on Johnson Rd.

Later that day a 39-year-old man was killed after the car he was in rolled on the Bruce Highway in Bluewater outside of Townsville.

On Saturday a 50-year-old woman died in hospital after a crash on the Cunningham Highway near Warwick.
