Siblings to spur each other on to the state titles
GYMNASTICS: There is no love lost between Evelyn and Freddy James.
Well on the gymnastic apparatuses there isn't anyway. The Gymfinity duo recently competed at the Gladstone Invitation in preparation for the state titles later this month.
Freddy, competing in level four men's artistic gymnastics, finished second overall, winning individual events on the floor and the vault.
Sister Evelyn was sixth overall in the same level in the women's competition.
"She'll never beat me,” a confident Freddy said.
"I didn't do everything perfectly but I did vault really good.”
Freddy said the siblings got into gymnastics because their mother thought the sport would be good for them.
Evelyn said she was pleased with her performance.
"I was happy with whole thing I guess,” she said.
"I did beam really well.”
The James siblings weren't the only gymnasts from Gymfinity at the invitational with more than 30 others competing from level three to six in boys and level three to 10 in girls.
Alyssa Dilger finished second overall in level three open, Miranda Warham finished fourth in level six and Melissa Prietrobuono finished second overall in level seven.
Jayla Melein, who finished 12th in level four under, said it had been an impressive meet for the club.
"The event showed us what we're going to compete against at the states.
"I didn't do as well as the regionals but I finished third overall at the club.”
The state titles will be held from September 16-19.
