A SHOP assistant at Stocklands called on fellow citizens this morning to help arrest a man who was running off with a $7000 necklace from a jewellery store.

The man entered the store at 10.45am; grabbing the necklace before running out of the store.

The shop assistant chased after him; calling out to members of the public for their help.

Other people came to his aid and they grabbed the man in the carpark.

Police soon arrived and arrested the man.

Police said they were very appreciative to the members of the public who assisted.

It's the second time this week ordinary people have helped keep crime at bay; the first, two men in Calliope helped stop an attack on a police constable and prevent an 18-year-old from running away.
