Shadow minister questions Premier's support of Adani

SHADOW mines minister Andrew Cripps has lashed out at the Queensland Premier for "saying one thing in Townsville and another in Brisbane" over the future of Adani's Carmichael coal mine.

During a trip to Townsville this week Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said "no one should doubt the resolve of my government to ensure the development of the Galilee Basin".

She highlighted extra resourcing to the Land Court, in order to streamline legal challenges against the project, as evidence to the government's commitment.

"...Everyone deserves their day in court, but not four years in court," she said.

"We have increased resourcing for the Land Court and appointed a new president to streamline some of the legal challenges."

Headlines followed, stating Ms Palaszczuk would "stare down" green groups in order to ensure the project went ahead.

However, Mr Cripps said the premier's "tough talk" couldn't be further from the truth.

"This is a case of Annastacia Palaszczuk saying one thing in North and Central Queensland and doing another in Brisbane.

"The pro-development rhetoric we've heard during her visit to Townsville doesn't match the actions of her government."

Mr Cripps pointed to a piece of environmental legislation recently introduced to state parliament, which aimed to regulate groundwater use in the resource industry.

He said it could capture Adani's project in further transitional arrangements, in yet another red-tape set back.

"This could be a significant hurdle for the project to overcome," he said.
