BREAKING: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Toowoomba. It is expected to bring damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued the warning for parts of Toowoomba and Dalby areas detected on radars about 3.35pm.

The storms, detected in the area southeast of Dalby, are moving towards the north-east putting Dalby and Bowenville in the firing line.

Damaging winds and heavy rainfall which BoM advises may lead to flash flooding are expected to hit about 4.05pm.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Channel Country, Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs, and Granite Belt districts.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises people to prepare their properties, move vehicles under cover or away from trees, secure loose items and avoid flood waters.

Call the State Emergency Service on 132 500 in a storm emergency.
