Severe storm warning for Qld

A SEVERE storm warning has been issued for Queensland's southern regions with damaging winds and large hailstones expected to hit the area.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issued an alert at 3.17pm on Wednesday afternoon for the Wide Bay, Burnett, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Maranoa, Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt regions, warning that a group of thunderstorms were likely to pass through these areas over the next few hours.

Warwick, Toowoomba, Dalby, Roma, Gympie, Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Kingaroy, Stanthorpe, Brisbane and Maroochydore are all likely to be affected.

Emergency Management Queensland advises people in these areas to -
  • Move your car under cover or away from trees.
  • Secure loose outdoor items.
  • Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
  • Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
  • Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
  • For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The Bureau will issue their next update at 3:40pm.
