Seven crews respond to Thabeban grass fire

IT WAS a busy Saturday for fire crews after a grass fire broke out close to a number of businesses in Thabeban.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Bundaberg station officer Vicki Shailer said seven crews responded after the blaze broke out on a black of land in Kay McDuff Dr about 2pm.

"We ended up having to back burn and burn the block out," she said.

"We had three rural units and four urban units. "We contained it and had it out by about 4.30pm."

Ms Shailer said investigations into the cause of the fire were continuing but it was a timely reminder for people to be fire conscious.

"People need to be vigilant, keep an eye out if they see anyone acting suspicious around large areas of grass," she said.

"If anyone is going to do some burns they need to obtain a permit and be aware of the weather conditions."
