Qld truck driver, 48, killed in crash on Bruce Highway

UPDATE MONDAY noon: Police said the truck driver who died in the crash was a 48-year-old man from Oxley, Brisbane.

UPDATE: Police said the cause of a crash on the Bruce Highway that killed a 45-year-old driver is unknown at this time.

Mackay District Senior Sergeant Dave Parnell said it would now be a matter for the forensic crash unit and investigations would continue.

The driver of the tanker died after his vehicle left the road and overturned on the Bruce Highway at approximately 7.15am this morning. 

He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The tanker caught fire as a result.

UPDATE: POLICE are currently at the scene of a fatal traffic crash 5km north of the Bloomsbury township.

Initial investigations suggest that just after 7.15am this morning a truck was travelling north on the Bruce Highway when it rolled and caught alight.

A police spokesman said the 45-year-old male driver was entrapped in the cabin and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

An initial exclusion zone was established as the truck was believed to be transporting toxic chemicals.

No one else was injured. The Bruce Highway is down to one lane with traffic diversions in place.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Clayton's Towing reports a 250m exclusion zone has been set up following a tanker crash.

The Bruce Highway at Bloomsbury is shut and they say it will be closed for a "long period".
