He said he created the party to better advocate for Queenslanders on cleaner and cheaper energy, unemployment, drought and economic growth.

"I have worked with some excellent high performing teams for most of my life," he said on Thursday.

"Queensland desperately needs help to address high unemployment, crippling drought and the need for economic growth,"

"Queensland also needs better energy solutions which are cleaner, cheaper, more reliable and locally based.

"My Glenn Lazarus Team will support me in providing Queensland with the best representation possible."

Famed as the "brick with eyes", Senator Lazarus entered politics in 2013 under the umbrella of Clive Palmer's political umbrella but left after the party clashed with his wife and chief of staff Tess.

Creating your own political party has become a new trend for independent Senators, with another former PUP Jacqui Lambie creating the Jacqui Lambie Network and South Australian Senator Nick Xenophon building his Nick Xenophon Team.
