Seaweed soup sours surfboat saftey
THE driving wind and pounding surf were unable to stop Bundaberg's surfboat crew at the second round of the Australian Surf Rowers League at Broadbeach, but thanks to ex-Tropical Cyclone Dylan seaweed did.
Halfway through the day's racing the safety boats had to pull in due to the congestion of seaweed which was ripped off the ocean floor by strong currents and heavy seas, stalling the boats' propellers making it the first event in 60 years to be called off because of seaweed.
Before the ocean turned to a green thickshake the Bundaberg crew made a solid start and after the heats finished the round sixth.
