Scott Morrison fuming over Bible radio challenge

SOCIAL Services Minister Scott Morrison has revealed that Tony Abbott offered him the job as Treasurer in a last-ditch attempt to save his prime ministership on Monday.

But Mr Morrison slammed the offer, saying that accepting the position would "throw [Treasurer] Joe Hockey under a bus" and would see him "pick a fight" with Mr Hockey and Deputy Liberal Leader Julie Bishop.

Mr Morrison made the comments in a heated interview with Sydney radio broadcaster Ray Hadley, in which Hadley tried to get the minister to swear on a Bible that he had not betrayed Mr Abbott.

While Mr Morrison has regularly appeared on Hadley's program on 2GB - with the broadcaster making no secret of his admiration for Mr Morrison - the two fell out in spectacular style during the Friday morning interview.

Mr Morrison told Hadley, in connection with his Bible request, "If that's what you need, then we don't have the relationship that I thought we had."
