School's 125-year milestone

THE Bundaberg South State School 125th Anniversary Celebration Day in May 2016 was a day to remember.

Past students, principals and staff travelled from around Australia to reminisce school day memories, renew old friendships and to celebrate a significant milestone in Bundaberg's education history.

Past, present students and staff over 10 decades lined up for registrations and memorabilia. Crowds were entertained by a vintage car display, class stalls, community stalls, instrumental music students and staff from Bundaberg high schools. The crowd enjoyed the stirring sounds of Bundaberg Caledonian Pipe Band.

The official ceremony sounded with the ringing of the school bell by Terry Birchley (past principal at the 100 Year Centenary Celebration).

Principal Narelle Clarke welcomed all visitors and official guests.

The oldest past student who attended the day, Mrs Ruth Kitching (formerly Hodgetts), cut the 125th Anniversary cake with youngest student Jamie Dunning and school leaders Natasha Wilson and Thomas Braddon.

A very special end of the Celebration Day was 140 guests who joined to celebrate the 125th Anniversary Dinner at the Bundaberg RSL Coral Sea Room later that evening.

The Bundaberg South State School 125th Anniversary Sub-Committee would like to sincerely thank Bundaberg Regional Council Micro Grants Program and the many local businesses and community organisations for their sponsorship, donations and assistance.

Contributions from past staff and students in the form of written histories, photographs, anecdotes and display memorabilia made this day a memorable occasion.

The school would like to extend special acknowledgement the Sub-Committee members for their dedicated organisation, support and contributions during the past three years.

To continue the celebrations, an Open Day will be held at Bundaberg South State School on Friday, November 4, 2016 from 9am to 12pm.

Come and view our classrooms, anniversary paver celebration pathway, time capsule burial and new facilities.
