Schoolies 2017: Parents face fines or even jail over parties
PARENTS have been put on notice they face big fines, or even jail, over out-of-control parties as North Stradbroke Island braces for an inundation of hundreds of pre-Schoolies.
Police have held a community meeting and sent information to schools and real estate agencies warning of a crackdown on bad behaviour by teens, and then over-18s including uni students, in the next two weeks.
From Friday until October 2, local police will be joined by Tactical Crime Squad officers and staff from the Office of Liquor and Gaming.
Island resident of 17 years and local doctor, Anna Thomas-Mergler, said of the first week of the September school holidays was "the worst week of the year".
