Schmeider and Wilkinson in medals

ROWING: Bundaberg's Melanie Schmeider and Nic Wilkinson each signed off on highly successful years on the water by excelling in two regattas at Grafton last week.

Schmeider, who has just finished year 11 at St Luke's Anglican School, bagged two medals in the Head of the Clarence School Regatta on Saturday, taking silver in the schoolgirls single scull and bronze in the under-17 girls singles.

She improved on those results in the annual Grafton Rowing Club Regatta on the Sunday, claiming a glorious gold in the U-16 girls singles and a shining silver in the U-17 singles.

Rising star Former Bundaberg State High School student Wilkinson, who took up a sporting scholarship at St Joseph's College Nudgee this year, snared one medal of each variety in the schools competition.

The stylish technician was part of the gold medal winning U-15 boys' pairs duo, picked up silver in the U-15 boys singles, and also gained bronze with his U-17 boys' fours team.

Wilkinson added gold at the club regatta in the U-15 boys' fours and bronze in the pairs.

Wilkinson was also among the medals at the Queensland State titles at Bucca a week earlier, where Schmeider also rowed well.
