Salmat to become Catholic offices

THE former Salmat building is set to be turned into offices for the Catholic Parish of Bundaberg after the organisation bought the former call centre.

Father John Daly said the parish needed to expand from its current offices.

"It was adjoining our property so it seemed to be the most convenient," he said.

Fr Daly said the church's offices would be contained to the ground floor while the parish hoped to rent out the second flood to another business.

He said the new building would also give staff more privacy.

"The current building we are in was built as a house and not meant to be used as an office," he said.

"It's not really suitable to see people in private."

Fr Daly said the parish was negotiating with St Joseph's Catholic School, which may be interested in using the church's current office behind the Holy Rosary Church.

He declined to disclose how much the church had paid for the building.
