Russian to see world class ballet

THE Imperial Russian Ballet Company will pirouette into town this Friday for a one-night performance of Swan Lake.

The troupe is back in Australia by popular demand after selling out shows earlier this year.

Company spokesperson Lionel Midford said the ballet had received rave reviews.

“The audience reaction has been absolutely phenomenal,” he said.

“Almost every show has got a standing ovation.”

Mr Midford said the show had sold very well throughout the Australian and New Zealand tour.

“They have been touring since September and almost every show has been sold out,” he said.

Moncrieff Theatre cinema operations manager Debbie Derepas said she hoped Bundaberg would be no exception to this trend.

“Sales are going really well,” she said.

“The house is looking very good. We have had people from as far as Hervey Bay buying tickets.”

The Imperial Russian Ballet Company was formed in 1994 and is headed by the Bolshoi Theatre soloist Gediminas Taranda.

“It is one of the most prestigious ballet companies in the world,” Mr Midford said.

Swan Lake tells the story of an evil genius who bewitches girls and turns them into graceful swans.

The terrible spell will only be removed when someone falls in love with Odette, The Queen of Swans.

Tickets for Swan Lake can be purchased from the theatre by telephoning 4130 4100 or at the theatre website.

If tickets are not sold out prior to the show, they can be purchased at the door on Friday night.

The cost is $79.90 per adult, $56.90 for children and $69.90 for full-time students.

The show will begin at 8pm and consists of three classical ballet acts and two intermissions.

“We would love for the people of Bundaberg to see our show,” Mr Midford said.

Due to the success of Swan Lake, the company will return again next year to perform The Nutcracker.
