RSPCA drops cat prices to save lives

BUNDABERG'S RSPCA shelter has been forced to drastically drop the prices of cats and kittens due to a huge influx of the abandoned animals.

Shelter manager Vicki Beer said the refuge was being bombarded with enormous numbers of the animals and the price reduction was an effort to reduce the number of cats that needed to be euthanased.

"We're trying to save as many lives as we can," Ms Beer said.

"We don't want to have to put them down, but we just don't have enough room for all of them."

Ms Beer said cats usually cost $180 but they would be sold at the shelter for $99, barely even covering the cost of desexing, microchipping and vaccinating the animals.

The price of kittens will be dropped from $199 to $150.
