Rolf Harris makes first appearance at assault trial

ROLF Harris has made his first appearance at a London trial against him alleging he assaulted seven woman and children between 1971 and 2004 at locations across London including TV sets, radio studios and a party hosted by the BBC.

News Corp Australia reported Harris, now 86, had previously appeared via video link at the trial but was ordered to appear in person for the final days of the trial.

One charge alleges Harris groped a 16-year-old assistant on the set of the TV show Star Games in 1978.

Witness statements read to the court on January 26 included one from actress Rula Lenska, who filmed the show with Harris and his alleged victim.

Ms Lenska's statement said she never witnessed anything untoward or suspicious on the set, News Corp reported.

The jury also heard of Harris's prior convictions. In 2014, the former entertainer was found guilty of 12 counts of indecent assault against several young girls in incidents dating back to the late '60s.

Harris has pleaded not guilty to six charges of indecent assault and one charge of sexual assault.

He will continue to appear in court over coming days as the final witnesses appear and prosecution and defence give their closing addresses to the jury.
