VIDEO: Rockhampton house fire hero first on scene
WHAT he thought was going to be a relaxed Father's Day turned out to be Adam Wehlow's debut role as Stenlake Ave's resident hero as he fought a neighbour's house fire from a second-storey window.
Armed with a garden hose, Adam stood on another neighbour's shoulders as he fed water into a bedroom after it became engulfed in flames early yesterday afternoon.
Emergency service crews were called to the Rockhampton scene at around 2pm but Adam was first on the job.
"I looked outside to check on my son and I saw flames out the window. I sprinted over, jumped the two fences; I actually scaled it pretty quick ... I was impressed with myself," he said.
"I ran upstairs to make sure everyone was out.
"The other neighbour, I jumped on his shoulders first just to get up there and just hung onto the window with the hose before we found a ladder."
Adam also ensured the gas and electricity had been turned off, as well as checking off another priority from the list.
"I was at the window and my wife was like 'get down Adam!' And I said 'take a photo, I am putting a fire out!'" he said.
Two adults and one child were believed to have been in the lower levels of the house at the time but were not harmed or injured in the incident.
The fire was contained to the rear bedroom of the house.
The cause remains unknown.
