A busy week for Oakwood

WELL what a week we had, with everything happening at Oakwood.

Monday brought clear, windy weather, but this was no hassles for Sharon Rushton, who breezed through the Monday ladies' nine-hole comp with a winning score of 28 net.

On Wednesday, the Oakwood Park Veterans played in the third and final round of the championships, in fine sunny conditions.

Scores were not as high as would be expected for a final round, but Rusty Roberts with a very fine 40 points headed the field in Division 1 to ease out Ros Savidge (39), John Moore (37) and Eddie Richardson (36).

Dot Moore carded the day's best score of 42 points to take out Div 2 event relegating John Briggs (38), Rod Stevenson (37) and Ross Hussey (35).

This meant that with consistent scores over four rounds of varying conditions, John Moore (148) easily clinched Div 1.

The old saying people who live in glass houses really applied this week.

After giving my old cricketing mate Nick Warner a bit of a caning over claiming the NAGA Award a few times, lo and behold, yours truly won it this week with a blitzkrieg 26 points.

My hands were shaking that much I had trouble filling my score card, the biro moved in some awkward ways and I nearly caused John Moore's disqualification with a barely readable score card.

That is all from me this week, so until next week may all your balls fly straight and far.
