Roberts cops punishment from Broncos

BRISBANE has fined centre James Roberts $20,000 and forced him to undergo a rehab program formulated by the NRL and Rugby League Players Association.

While Roberts was not arrested he was fined for public nuisance at a Brisbane hotel earlier this month.

Brisbane advised the NRL's Integrity Unit of the incident before it became public.

Roberts will not be suspended and will play against Melbourne on Friday night.

However he will have to take part in community services on designated player days off, with the NRL and NRLPA able to update and review his program at any time.

Broncos' chief executive Paul White said the club was determined to obtain positive outcomes from the incident for both the player and the community.

"We informed the NRL of this matter before it became public and have continued to provide them any and all assistance in their investigation," White said.

"This will be a total plan for James' development and wellbeing, and will have high regard for both the issues of the past and what we are hoping for going into the future."
