Rob Pyne to Premier: Stop talking and let's get on with it

THE politician who cost Queensland Labor their majority has called on the government to "forget elections" and get on with work.

Former Labor Cairns MP Rob Pyne made his first speech as an independent MP in parliament on Tuesday.

Mr Pyne said although he was no longer and ALP member he remained a supporter of the "wider labour movement" and would vote in line with what he believe the "rank and file" party members supported.

Mr Pyne said he and his office had received abuse and threats since his defection. His move to the crossbench eliminated Labor's parliamentary majority.

Despite suggestions of an early election Mr Pyne said he believed voters did not want that and urged Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to hold off on any election.

"Forget elections and get on with the business of governing," he said.
