Road closure extended as part of Thabeban drainage project

WORK being undertaken by Bundaberg Regional Council crews to address drainage issues in the Thabeban area will require the extended closure of a section of Verdant Siding Road between Goodwood Road and Ellen Drive.

Following an extensive study into identified drainage problems caused by flooding in some streets and allotments in the Thabeban area, Council has implemented a staged program to provide an underground system to contain the majority of stormwater flows.

Roads and Drainage portfolio spokesman, Cr Tony Ricciardi said under the initial stage, large culverts are being placed in the ground from the Ring Road retention basin up to Verdant Siding Road.

"To ensure the safe installation of pipe culverts along Verdant Siding Road, we are extending the closure of the road between Goodwood Road and Ellen Drive until Friday, 23 October," Cr Ricciardi said.

"While Verdant Siding Road is closed, traffic including B-Double vehicles will be detoured via Wylie Street.

"Local access to premises in the construction area on Verdant Siding Road will be maintained from the western end under traffic guidance when required.

"Council is aware that construction projects impact on the regular movements of residents and business operators.  We thank them for their patience while this important work is finalized."

A newsletter regarding the progress of drainage upgrade works has been distributed to affected residents and uploaded to the Council website.
