Woman thrilled with big win

BRANYAN woman Rita MacKenzie walked away from a Father’s Day event with a huge smile, having won a $4395 ride-on mower courtesy of the NewsMail and Nowa Power Products.

She was one of thousands who had entered the draw for the mower by cutting out coupons from the NewsMail and sending them in to win the big prize.

Ms MacKenzie, who said she entered a “handful” of entries each week the competition was running, also took home a bonus prize because she turned up to the Father’s Day family fun day and prize draw organised at the business on Saturday.

“Because she was present on Saturday she got a five-night holiday on the Gold Coast courtesy of the NewsMail,” Nowa manager Shawn Hall said.

Ms MacKenzie has recently bought an acreage at Branyan, so the ride-on mower will be put to good use.

Mr Hall said the business had been overwhelmed by the response to the prize giveaway.

“We had a ute tray full of entries; I’m going to count them this week,” he said.

He said the turnout for the fun day had also exceeded his expectations.

Residents were entertained with Dane Costigan’s band playing throughout the day, helium balloons for children, free sample showbags and a free sausage sizzle.

“The cars went a kilometre up the road. All you could see right up the road was cars,” Mr Hall said.

He said residents enjoyed the jam-packed day.

“The response was so massive so I think we might look into doing it again next year.”
