Letter: Not better off
WHEN are our politicians going to come out of their ivory towers into the real world and begin telling the truth?
The Federal Health Minister Sussan Ley hasn't a clue what pain medication costs.
She announced that pain medication was to come off the PBS in January.
She claims that concession card holders are paying $6.10 for a $2 pack of paracetamol.
This is not true. For $2 you get 24 tablets which last four days.
On my prescription I get a twin pack (192) tablets which lasts 32 days, so how am I better off?
On the health minister's figures it will cost me $16 instead of $6.10.
This means that I will be $9.90 worse off.
Years ago the Howard Government took a number of lifesaving medications off the PBS to save money.
It almost looks like the government wants us old people to give up and die so they don't have to look after us in our old age.
One day they will be old, sick and in pain. How will they get on then?
