Richards was top dog at duel

SATURDAY'S greyhound meeting at Thabeban Park Raceway turned into a training duel between leading trainer Marie Richards and Gin Gin-based Ron Brook.

Between them the two trainers captured all events on the six-race program.

The day started and finished on a high note for Richards, taking out races one and six, but the honours on the day went to Brook who collected four consecutive winners.

Swords were drawn from the start when Richards' dog Black Eyed Aidan, debuting on the track, set sail after Brooks' runner Ledaro Holly.

Despite setting up what appeared to be a winning break, it had to settle for second as Black Eyed Aidan came home in an impressive 26.73sec.

Brook unleashed a potential up-and-comer in race two, The Tyrepower Maiden over 460m.

Madam Lakoda scorched around Thabeban Park in a super slick 26.48sec to win by a staggering 18 lengths.

The time run by Madam Lakoda set the standard for the day and there appears many more wins in store for this speedy bitch.

In race three, Live Wire Lakoda recorded her second win in five starts to take out the fifth grade over 460m.

Live Wire scooted clear down the back straight but Jerry Can Cap was starting to improve and made a late surge in the straight only to be denied by the slimmest of head margins on the line.

The duel stepped up a gear in race four with Richards rugging up two runners, Richo's Sugar in box one and the short-priced favourite Richo's Choice in box seven. Richo's Sugar set the pace, turning into the back straight from Ledaro Midge and Richo's Choice.

Coming off the back turn, Ledaro Midge started to reel in Richo's Sugar and skipped away to a handy break turning for home.

Richo's Choice made one final surge, but failed to rein in Ledaro Midge, who scored win number seven in a best time of 26.63sec.

In race five, Brook lined up Hara's Command from box seven.

Hara's Command split the two leaders on the line to win by a narrow half-head margin and give Brook win number four and Hara's Command his first win in Bundaberg.

The final race was won by the Richards' charge Brodies Breed.
