REVEALED: IKEA makes major central Queensland announcement
UPDATE 11AM: IKEA Australia has confirmed there will be an IKEA depot/warehouse in Rockhampton and Mackay.
It is unclear at this stage where exactly in town the warehouse will be located and how many jobs will be created from this service but more details are expected to become available soon.
More to come.
INITIAL: IKEA is coming to Rockhampton - virtually.
The Swedish furniture giant has announced they will launch online shopping services for north Queensland in April, meaning IKEA customers in towns such as Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Mackay and further north will be able to shop online and have their items delivered.
Will you shop at IKEA now it can deliver straight to your door?
This poll ended on 24 January 2017.
This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.
With online shopping and delivery having previously been unavailable for the region except via private courier services, the online shopping announcement is huge for loyal IKEA customers.
There will not be a physical store in Rockhampton, Yeppoon or Mackay.
Currently, IKEA Australia is conducting Home Visits to obtain knowledge and insights into the local area ahead of the launch, to understand how better to present its range and communicate online in a way that's relevant to the local market.
Click & Collect will be available from local pick-up points located in Rockhampton, Mackay and further north.
Home Visits allow willing participants to invite IKEA into their homes so the home furnishing retailer can get a real insight into how they live and what they want from their home.
Multichannel Manager for IKEA Australia Michael Donath said the company was excited to bring the services to the region.
"We're very excited to soon bring Click & Collect to North Queensland which will provide access for more Queenslanders to a wide range of affordable, quality home furnishing products," Mr Donath said.
"The area already has a great appetite for an IKEA presence with an existing customer base of those willing to travel to Brisbane in order to make a purchase."
