A PARK created to encourage the community to be more active and healthy opened with much fanfare on Saturday.

Boreham Park in Bundaberg and Schuhkraft Hub at Bargara are the two parks to be redesigned by Wide Bay Medicare Local and the Bundaberg Regional Council, to support active lifestyles.

Wide Bay Medicare Local CEO Shane Dawson said Bundaberg ranked among the worst in the nation for high levels of physical inactivity and obesity.

"These parks now give locals a wide ranging selection of no cost energy-burning equipment and activities catering for all ages, regardless of your current activity levels," he said.

"Most importantly, local residents were heavily involved in the design elements of the parks and the types of equipment included."

Familles and exercise enthusiasts were among the attendees of the Boreham Park opening which featured activities, demonstrations and a free barbecue breakfast.

The Schuhkraft Hub, at Nielson Park Beach, will hold a community open day this Saturday, March 8.
