Restrictions should not be lifted

THE sweet smell of summer rain is still not enough to convince Monto resident John MacElroy that water restrictions in town should be lifted.

The North Burnett Regional Council will meet next week to discuss the restrictions in Monto, Eidsvold and Biggenden.

Mr MacElroy does not want to see water restrictions in the town lifted until Three Moon Creek runs again.

“Until that runs, they won’t get any water into the aquifer and the restrictions should hold until then,” he said.

“It’s been brilliant, but we need more (before lifting restrictions).”

NBRC Mayor Joy Jensen said workers were checking aquifer levels on a daily basis and the council would meet early next week to discuss the water status in the three towns.

She said the council last reviewed the restrictions before Christmas.
