Respite centre opens in Gin Gin

THE official opening of the Kolan Community Options Respite Centre yesterday has seen a vital service become more available to Gin Gin residents.

Bundaberg Regional Council community services spokeswoman Judy Peters said modifications had been made to the former Kolan Shire Council boardroom so that a dedicated respite area could be provided to the community twice a week.

"Community care services have been provided by the council in Gin Gin since 1996 but this new facility has enabled us to increase the number of days respite is available per week after previously only being available once a week," Cr Peters said.

"The new facility also means we can offer the service to a wider variety of people."

The new facility, on Dear St adjacent to the council service centre, includes a kitchen, a secure outdoor and barbecue area and disability-friendly amenities.

"Kolan Community Options provides a vital service for carer relief as well as the opportunity for frail aged and disabled residents to have social interaction and participate in the activities-based program," Cr Peters said.
