Relay for Life happening this weekend

THIS weekend, more than 1200 locals will lace up and take to the track at Bundaberg Relay For Life in an effort to support all Queenslanders affected by cancer.

The Cancer Council Queensland event will kick off at Bundaberg Recreational Precinct with the opening ceremony at 2pm (August 16), followed by 18 hours of fun and festivities, before the event comes to a close at 8am Sunday (August 17).

The general public are invited to attend the Relay from 1pm for a gold coin donation.

Local representatives attending the opening ceremony will include, Mayor Mal Forman, Qld Police Minister Jack Dempsey, Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt and State Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett.

Media are invited to attend for photo, filming and interview opportunities:

Cancer Council Queensland Relay For Life Chairperson Greg Bath extended a special invite to the Bundaberg community and media to attend the 2014 Relay For Life.

"By taking part, you can help us create hope for cancer survivors, hope for those who have lost loved ones, and hope for a cancer free future," Dr Bath said.

"Hope lives in all of us - so this weekend, join us as we rally together to raise funds for Cancer Council Queensland's vital work in cancer research, education and patient support programs."
